Innovative Work: Respiratory System
TOPIC: HUMAN RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
AIM
The primary aim of this innovative work was to prepare a working model of the human respiratory system as a novel and creative teaching aid for the effective transaction of the content “Human Respiratory System” from the unit “Respiration and Excretion” for standard 9th students.
OBJECTIVES
1. To develop a novel and creative teaching aid for the effective and meaningful transaction of the content “Human Respiratory System.”
2. To prepare a working model of the human respiratory system as an innovative teaching tool.
3. To facilitate an engaging and interactive learning environment that fosters a deeper understanding of the breathing mechanism.
4. To develop a positive attitude among students toward the topic by using a creative teaching strategy.
PREPARATION
The working model was designed using simple materials such as a balloon, chart paper, plastic straw, cellotape, color papers, and markers. The following steps were undertaken to create the model:
- Cut a piece of chart paper to create a sturdy base for the model.
- Decorate the chart paper with color paper to make it visually appealing.
- Take two balloons to represent the lungs.
- Attach each balloon to a plastic straw using cello tape, ensuring the connection is airtight.
- Fix the two straws with the attached balloons onto the chart paper base using cello tape. Ensure the balloons are positioned in such a way that they represent the lungs' placement.
- Extend the two straws upwards and join them to form a single straw, simulating the trachea. Secure the connection with cello tape.
- Blow gently through the straw to inflate the balloons, demonstrating inhalation.
- Release the air to show exhalation.
- Use markers to label parts of the respiratory system, such as the lungs, trachea, and bronchi.
